  Under the Banyan Tree  R. K. Narayan   Introduction  R. K. Narayan (Rasipuram Krishnaswami Iyer Narayanaswami, 1906–2001) was one of India’s most celebrated and widely read English novelists. He is best known for his simple, clear, and humorous writing style, and for creating the imaginary South Indian town Malgudi , which serves as the setting for many of his novels and stories.
